Handbuilding Level 1 – Beginner Pottery Course (12 Sessions · 36 Hours)

A structured ceramic handbuilding workshop for beginners.

Ideal for: Whether you’re a complete beginner or want to deepen your clay skills, this course gives you a full foundation in handbuilding techniques.

What You Will Learn

Module 1: Clay Basics & Preparation

• Introduction to pottery & clay types
• Understanding clay stages
• How to prepare & wedge clay (ram’s head / spiral)

Module 2: Core Hand Building Techniques

• Pinching fundamentals
• Coiling method
• Slab construction (soft & firm slabs)
• Combining techniques to form basic structures

Module 3: Functional & Decorative Forms

• Introduction to plaster moulds
• Creating cups, bowls, plates (dinnerset)
• Learn miniature sculpting and forms, proportions & character details
• Proportion, balance & design basics
• Build your own handcrafted lamp and Understand structure, weight & ventilation

Module 4: Refinement & Finishing

• Smoothing surfaces & correcting shape
• Joining parts (handles, attachments)

Module 5: Surface Decoration (Beginner Level)

• Texturing patterns
• Underglaze color application
• Intro to carving
• Basic slip decoration

Module 6: Glazing Basics

• Dipping glazing technique
• Intro to sanding and waxing 
• Understanding glaze behaviour and Learn studio-grade glazing

Course Features

Homework Assignment for Every Level

Each level includes structured homework assignments designed to strengthen your learning and build muscle memory.

Students must complete these tasks, and every assignment will be documented and submitted to the instructor for final approval, creating a personal learning archive that tracks your progress, growth, and technical mastery.

Course Duration & Fees

• Total Hours: 36 hours (10 instructor-led sessions, 2 free flow sessions, 3 hours each)
• Clay: Stoneware & Earthenware
• Course Fees: ₹13,500 (Includes clay, tools, glazes, two firings, tax & full studio support)
• Batch Timings (Choose One): (Wed to Sun)
  • 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
  • 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
• Weekly Holiday: Monday & Tuesday
• What You Take Home: 7–10 finished ceramic pieces
• Enjoy unlimited open studio access for the entire duration of your course
• Unlimited clay usage included, so you can practice freely without restrictions

Terms & Conditions

• You may switch batches up to 3 times (subject to availability)
• Course Validity: You will get 20 days of validity from the date of joining to complete all sessions.
  (Example: 12 sessions can be completed any time within these 20 days). No extensions beyond the 20-day validity period
• No refunds after registration
• Seat can be transferred before course begins
