Week 1: Handbuilding Basics

• Introduction to different clay bodies
• Wedging techniques: Bull Head & Spiral Kneading
• Core handbuilding methods: Pinching, Coiling, and Slab Building
• Create simple forms like cups, planters, and trays
• Explore the basics of clay sculpture
• Studio maintenance and best practices

Weeks 2 & 3: Wheel Throwing Fundamentals

• Learn the essential wheel techniques: Coning, Centering, Opening, and Pulling Walls
• Understand the anatomy of a cylinder
• Practice throwing cylinders and bowls
• Use mirrors to correct posture and hand position
• Ongoing studio maintenance

Week 3: Project Development & Surface Design

• Apply wheel and handbuilding skills to create a personal project
• Learn trimming techniques and how to attach handles
• Explore surface decoration: Carving, Stamping, and designing your stamp
• Hands-on projects: Make a ceramic lamp, clock, and mini creature
• Daily studio upkeep

Week 4: Glazing & Firing Essentials

• Introduction to glaze chemistry and food-safe practices
• Learn burnishing and wax resist techniques
• Try your hand at sgraffito engraving
• Apply underglazes and engobes creatively
• Mix and prepare store-bought glaze powders
• Master glaze application: Dipping, Pouring, and Layering
• Understand different types of firing methods
